Troubleshooting

First thing always: read the server console and the client F8 console. Most problems print something.

Is the resource ensured? Every [beyond] folder needs its own ensure line in server.cfg. Type ensure bs_vip (or whatever) in the console and see if it starts or errors. This was the cause of “F7 VIP menu not implemented” once, the code was fine, it just never started.

You have neither chat nor bs_chat running, or both. Run exactly one. bs_chat replaces the stock chat and keeps the same events, so nothing else cares which one.

Zombies invisible, or “teleport to zombie” lands on nothing

Section titled “Zombies invisible, or “teleport to zombie” lands on nothing”

Two usual causes:

  1. A custom zombie model that won’t stream. If fxserver.log says something like
Asset bs_zombiepeds/u_m_y_zombie_01.ydd uses 64.0 MiB of virtual memory.
Oversized assets can and WILL lead to streaming issues
the model is too big, the game never loads it and the server thinks walkers exist that no client drew. Fix the asset (compressed textures with mipmaps, 1024 or 2048, well under 16 MB per file) or don’t start the pack. Without it you get the base game zombie model, which works.
  2. Networked mode issue. Run /znet and /zsync. If the server has walkers near you but your client holds none, try Zombies.Mode = 'legacy' and restart bs_zombies. Then send me the output.

Crawlers standing up: nutria_crawl_anims isn’t started, or is started after bs_zombies.

bs_zombiesfx isn’t running. Note it replaces the ped pain sounds for every ped, players too. That’s known.

  • Turn on crumbs (they’re on by default: Config.Crumbs.enabled = true in bs_core). After a crash, the next start prints [crumbs] last session: in F8 with the last 40 things that happened. /bs_crumbs prints the current session. Send me that, it’s way more useful than “it crashed”.
  • Crash while loading in / “256 pool” errors: usually the map streaming. See Performance, the pool sizes and the map extents.
  • Make sure the client is on the build the server enforces (3095).

callback "x" timed out after 10000ms - the resource that owns that callback isn’t running, or it errored. Callbacks are broadcast and only the owner answers, so a missing owner means a timeout, not an error. Find who registers it in the API reference.

callback "x" errored: ... - the server handler threw. The rest of the line is the real Lua error.

[BS SERVICES] ... - a resource asked for a service (BS.Use) whose provider is missing or doesn’t export what it promised. Check the provider is started before the consumer.

MUMBLE_ADD_VOICE_CHANNEL_LISTEN: Tried to call native on a channel that didn't exist spam - pma-voice. It’s off in the default cfg for this reason.

Could not find resource mapmanager / spawnmanager - you have ensures for cfx-server-data resources you don’t have. Remove them, we don’t need them.

ox_lib fails, takes ac_radio with it - you have the GitHub source zip of ox_lib. Get the release zip, it has web/build/.

Their identifier isn’t in a group with bs.admin. Check with the console:

test_ace identifier.license:xxxx bs.admin

Staff are exempt by ACE. A script teleporting players needs to call exports.bs_guard:Allow(src, 'teleport', ms). See Anti-cheat.

Some panel opened NUI focus and didn’t close it. Type /refreshui first, it closes every panel and drops focus. If that doesn’t do it, restart the resource that owns the panel. If it’s reproducible tell me which panel, every panel is supposed to pair bs:ui:opened with bs:ui:closed on every exit.
